UNDERSTANDING THE

MEDICARE REIMBURSEMENT SYSTEM

 

  

COURSE OVERVIEW

 

This fast paced course provides a review of the current standards and issues related to compliance with law, regulation, and accreditation including strategies for compliance with Medicare regulations across all provider settings and an update of JCAHO standards and expectations.  Strategies for meeting the standards while providing quality patient care will be presented.  Successful tools for documentation and compliance will be provided.

 

 

 

OBJECTIVES

 

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

 

  • Locate current and accurate resources related to law and regulation

  • Understand the role of leadership in managing rehab operations

  • Understand the JCAHO survey process, be able to participate positively and know the current “hot topics”

  • Have a more practical approach to coding and reimbursement issues

  • Understand the key documentation components required to defend billing practices.

  • Understand what constitutes fraud and abuse and identify personal and organizational responsibilities for compliance.

 


 

 

TARGET AUDIENCE

 

This program is recommended for those who desire an understanding of tools that will support leadership management and administration for the professional practice of Physical Therapy.  It is appropriate for all levels of therapy administrators, mangers, and leaders and the staff who must define and defend the provision of physical therapy services by Physical Therapists.  Physical therapists or administrators in all settings including, hospitals, private practices, long term care, home health, alternate site providers, consultants who are developing strategies to incorporate tools that promote physical therapy in their solutions to compliance, documentation, billing, marketing and staff development and recruiting challenges.

 

SPEAKER

 

Angela M. Phillips, PT is owner of Images, an educational and consulting service for rehab professionals.  She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, School of Allied Health Professions and has over 25 years experience as a therapist, manager, administrator and educator including extensive experience as a speaker on quality improvement, customer service, documentation requirements, clinical application for physical agents, preparation for JCAHO and management issues.  Her lecture style combines current research and educational information with examples of realistic and practical clinical applications. Ms. Phillips is author of “The Desktop Consultant: The Rehab Department’s Guide to JCAHO” and has written a number of articles for The Resource, the official publication of the Section on Health Policy and Administration.
