SUCCESS STRATEGIES INPATIENT REHABILITATION FACILITIES COURSE OVERVIEW
Inpatient rehabilitation facilities face increased enforcement of the Medicare rules and regulations under the IRF-PPS system. This course provides an extensive review of the Prospective Payment System for Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities (IRF’s). Our practice, fast-paced seminar outlines strategies to enhance revenues while maintaining compliance with law and regulation and providing quality care. The course explores proactive strategies for inpatient rehabilitation facilities in preparation for changing enforcement of the diagnostic category rules and greater scrutiny of medical necessity of admission to rehabilitation.
OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
§ Understand the legal and regulatory issues that guide the delivery of rehabilitation in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility § Describe the key success criteria for Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities and identify ways to improve each of these areas § Assess the organization’s effectiveness in accurately scoring Functional Independence Measures on the Patient Assessment Instrument (PAI) to establish the appropriate initial score § Develop strategies to identify key comorbid conditions and assure that there is supporting documentation for them to be coded on the PAI § Understand the key elements of compliance with Medicare Conditions of Participation and develop internal audit systems to assure compliance § Identity industry trends in coding and billing practices that can lead to audit and describe plans to avoid them § Identify key ways to use data to improve both business and clinical outcomes in rehabilitation § Identify opportunities for revenue enhancement through reduced variance in documentation of key criteria for rehab.

SPEAKER
Angela M. Phillips, PT is owner of Images & Associates, an educational and consulting service for rehab professionals. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, School of Allied Health Professions and has over 25 years experience as a therapist, manager, administrator and educator including extensive experience as a speaker on regulatory requirements, practice success, quality improvement, customer service, documentation requirements, preparation for JCAHO and management issues. Her lecture style combines current research and educational information with examples of realistic and practical clinical applications. Ms. Phillips is author of “The Desktop Consultant: The Rehab Department’s Guide to JCAHO” and has written a number of articles for The Resource, the official publication of the Section on Health Policy and Administration.
Ms. Phillips has worked with many hospital clients to identify opportunities for revenue enhancement and growth in rehabiliation and is a leader in the field in helping Inpatient Rehabiliation Units succeed under PPS. She is a frequent lecturer at national and state association programs for therapists.
